New Podcast

Together with my friend and colleague Sarah, I will be hosting a new podcast series called The Americanista. We will be discussing the works and lives of well-known and not so well-known American women as well as female scholars in the field of American Studies. Discover how we can end modern-day slavery together

I have recently been told of this fantastic project by the University of Nottingham and I wanted to share it with everyone. These guys are "home to the world's leading contemporary slavery experts and have built the world's first large-scale research platform for ending slavery" so, go check out what the team of Rights Lab is doing and get involved!

New estimates on the scope of slavery worldwide

"The statistics reveal that 40 million people are enslaved right now. About 20 million are trapped in labor slavery, about 5 million are exploited in sex slavery, about 15 million are enslaved in forced marriages. Women and girls account for 71 percent of the total; children are about 25 percent of the total. The study found that 89 million people have experienced some form of modern slavery during the past five years, ranging from a few days to several years." (Free the Slaves)
